Jaw dropping beauty…eerie and solemn but somehow amazingly peaceful.
Arrived in the evening as the rest of the tourists were leaving! Walked the
cobble stoned streets and stairs until late, had dinner at Le Mouton Blanc…slept
in a Tudor style 1700’s Hotel…OMG. Sacred island and chapel with an Abbey and
so many chapels…huge belfry, prison…Knights residences…it’s the only place not
to fall in Britain in the 100 years’ war. Awoke to a glorious sunrise to have the
place all to ourselves literally for a few hours before brekky. Toured the Abbey…very
creepy. Ghosts everywhere.
Stained glass in chapel de Magdalen was wonderful, as was
chapel itself…
Drove from Mont st Michel to Carnac using country roads…so
beautiful! Heaps of little villages along the way and so nice to be off the
Motorway! Only irritation, one way streets!!
Found Carnac in the arvo…coastal, wild country reminiscent
of port Elliot in South Australia.
Tip: When driving in France follow the Tout Directiones
signs and the little blue arrows…makes it so much easier!
Super chilled old hotel in Carnac looking out over the
marina and the sea. Looking forward to standing stones in the morning…they run
for 4 kms! This first evening we are walking hand in hand along the plage (
beach) and dining on cheese and wine.
Carnac was beyond words…bev and I walked amongst megalithic
stones feeling the amazing energy of such an ancient past. Then we took a side
track to st Michel’s tomb……and even before that it was an ancient burial hill…the
highest point in Carnac….perfectly aligned…the mound itself is collapsing under
the weight of the chapel……still a magical place. Some very very special olde
places with lots of lingering power and an innate sadness…..Strolled to the
Giants stone, a burial chamber of a Celtic king into which we ventured…not a
warm or welcoming energy!
Note to self…doing washing in the shower may lead to a
concussion!!
Cuisine of Brittany: Everything is HUGE!!! Buckets of beer,
coffee, wine……..
