surfing the good life

So we are back from a little sojurn down the coast for a surfing comp that both hubby and son were entering....a little unprpepared I will say as the waves during the comp were a tad small and their boards long but just not long enough for such miniscule bumps as these... ah well...they had a hoot and so did us girls, that is except for the very early morning cold midwinter starts and the briskly icy wind that felt up under my woolies and got into my skin and bones...made that latter day sun seem all the better when it finally made its presence known close to midday....

But what we did have was time away from the routine of everyday life...and this is so important. We all need a step out of our comfort zones and its better to do this with savvy on hols than in some other complex and irritating way....like boosting up an argument because we are bored and tired with oursleves and any distraction will do, or spending too much at the shops because we are fed up with our little lives and their hum drum routineness.... yes its neccessary and healthy to take a holiday...to check out a new self in a new environment and to realise what you can be....how you can be and who you really are when relaxed and untethered by the worry of survival in our sometimes difficult world!

We made oursleves busy with walks on the beach, hours of surfing, skateboarding, card games, fires on the beach, exploring unchartered ( at least by us) countryside and rocky cliffs, snorkelling and eating up a storm!

It was good....and now we are back, fully ensconced in our routine again, it seems straight away and effortlessly.....but we still have a little of holiday in us, we have a new perspective, a fresh one, and we have a new appreciation of our world..of our familiar comfy beds and couch....of our puppy (whom we did miss)....and of the possibility of more hols in our beautiful country....but we could do with a few additions to our routine...like a spa bath, which we realise we have become addicted to with a bubbly sort of tenacity.... ah well, we have instead come home to bathroom renovations ( which were meant to be completed whislt we were away) and no shower for a few days, so perhaps its just this inconvenience that has pushed our spa addiction to the fore....
