The big question today seems to be whether to give in to my lethargy and curl up by the fire with a good book or whether to be proactive and actually get some work done whilst sitting in my office on the computer with rain dripping down the window and a cold breeze blowing up my legs!
In my idleness defence sits an unusually difficult morning that might suggest I even just go back to bed and stay there until late and other unfortunate events are possibilities no more!
I get up at six every day and facilitate my daughter’s getting ready for school and making the 7.00 am bus.
Today I awoke to the aforementioned rainy day...fine really except it isn’t the dog’s favourite going outside weather and he decided to do his very early morning ‘business ‘ inside..Only he doesn’t reach the amenities well and a darkened corner is more his style! Rushing around in the kitchen I accidently found this particular corner with my bare foot and well, you can imagine...not such a good start to it all really...after a bit of sanitizing and so on I finally got around to putting the kettle on...only someone had left a half empty (or was it half full?) cup of cold tea next to the kettle and in my hurrying I knocked it over...and it went EVERYWHERE....cleaning this made me even later again...so the hurrying was becoming a little manic....
Youngest daughter was caught up in my mayhem and managed to spill powder all over her school uniform...we pulled out a second uniform and I gave it a lick and promise with the iron...then she sat down to brekkie cereal...an existential mistake ( if not an internal one) because that too went all over the uniform..Nothing to do now except wipe it with a damp cloth.....
Then she realised she needed a glue stick and had forgotten to buy one yesterday, so I dutifully ran down the road to the news agents (thank Goodness they open EARLY) and bought one. Of course I sensibly took my trusty umbrella but as I crossed the road on my return a big gust of wind whipped this trusty umbrella up into the air and turned it inside out, then same gust of wind deposited a hefty downpour of rain upon my head.... I arrived at the front door somewhat wet but glue stick victorious....a quick change of top and I was ready to go again.... naturally we got out the door a little late (I walk to the bus stop with my daughter and take our loveable little puppy for his morning exercise!) so I just put on the first shoes I could see...thongs...normally ok, in rain a bit questionable, but in a rush, inevitable....and when we reached the bus stop I took the pooch for a little stroll on nearby grass... you cannot imagine my surprise when I stepped in another ( loveable no doubt) pooche’s earlier morning ‘business’....all I could do was scrape my thong and toes( aghhh) on the grass and breathe through my mouth....at least until I got home...
So you see, perhaps the question has already been answered....perhaps idleness, lethargy and out and out laziness is preferable to whatever else the day has in store for me.....I’m just a little insecure about the possibility of paper cuts from the book I might read and whether or not the couch will hold me without breaking ...
