Ok this has been a computer frustrating week… my computer is at the Doctors for a clean out as it seems to have caught a nasty little virus. Oh well…I have been composing and sending my articles off by deadline via friends’ computers and the internet coffee place etc….not ideal but it suffices…….the blogs have suffered though so I am trying to rectify that too…….
We had a great family Christmas dinner the other night…Oh I know we still have a ways to go before the 25th but sometimes you need to bend the rules a little when dealing with everyone’s personal life agendas!! I celebrate Midsummer really but we were even early for that….I guess you could say that we celebrated ‘us’ as a family!!!
We barbequed and ate our selves silly on vegetarian sausages, kebabs of tofu, mango and pineapple, prawns and steak…to cater for a our varying dietary requirements…there was salad, cheeses, dips and garlic bread, not to mention my kilojoule extravagant cookies and cream dessert.....and lots of Pink champagne and good red wine…..we also had a Piñata….which seems to have been adopted as a standard celebratory item and found its way into our already chokka list of hallowed family traditions……
To keep a Christmassy theme we had a fairy Piñata…which when tarted up( is this a poor choice of phrase considering the sanctity of this occasion??) with a bit with tinsel, actually made quite a nice Angel! We seemed to have trouble breaking this darling thing and in the end only managed to behead her…..somehow as head parted body and the piñata broke ties from the roof of the veranda, our ‘angel’ flew out towards the laden table and landed right ways up with her head dangling like a basket a flowers from her hand…macabre I know, but I for one could not stop laughing at the impropriety of it all!
Puppy is becoming a hardened veteran of Piñata noise and family fun times now so he was less perturbed than I believed he would be, and just tried to get the head into his paws for a game of his own! He was in heaven with all the yummy smells and food…..but against the obvious delight you would suppose he might have in eating freshly cooked steak he chose to run away with candy canes and hype himself up on red colouring! It was hard to get him to rest that night!
Needless to say we had a good celebration and it was a great send off for the older girls who are now well and truly on the road trip they had planned earlier this year…even the Christmas Grinch (alias Hubby…who disdains all the Christmas fuss) had a good time…in fact I could not get him or Miss Nearly Independent’s boyfriend off the veranda to go to bed, until the wee small hours…they had too many bottles of nice red to go through!!!(And too many inane conversations to have and too many world issues to solve…and too many laughs to roll around over and in Hubby’s case too many hiccups to try and make go away!!!!!)
I do so enjoy my untamed, unique and slightly left of centre family….I really do……
